Currently receiving 4,477,800 passengers, QAIA is scheduled to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2012; the new QAIA will comfortably greet over 9 million passengers per year, with the capacity of further expansion to 12 million passengers if required.

The construction program, with investment totaling US$700m (increased to US$750m), includes the development of 86,000 sqm (expanded to 100,000 square meters), state-of-the-art terminal building and assorted airfield rehabilitation and upgrading works.

The objective of the expansion of QAIA is to:

  • Develop and enhance the position of QAIA as a regional hub
  • Increase terminal capacity to adequately handle projected traffic volumes
  • Increase service quality standards to provide passengers with improved overall airport experience in line with international best practices
  • Introduce private sector finance, technical know-how and operational improvements.

The expansion also means new flight services to and from Queen Alia International Airport.
